As a co-operative business, Dairy Farmers shareholders or members are also suppliers.

This means they supply the milk to the business, which, in turn, manufactures the milk into products that are marketed to customers and consumers.

Members have a ceiling on the number of shares they can own, based on the amount of milk they supply. No one can own more than five per cent of the business.

All members can vote on the future of the co-operative, they have one vote each, no matter how many shares they hold. This makes co-operatives true shareholder democracies.
