Milk Quality Bonus Cheques in the Mail

16.08.2005

Dairy Farmers today announced that more than 400 of its farmer owners from across Australia would receive an annual bonus owing to the consistently high quality of milk they supplied to the Co-operative over the past 12 months.

The quality bonus – which equates to 0.3 cents per litre for every litre of milk a farmer supplies in one year – is awarded to Dairy Farmers suppliers who consistently deliver premium quality milk that surpasses the Co-operative’s high standards.

The annual bonus comes on top of a 1.2 cent per litre monthly quality incentive paid to Dairy Farmers suppliers whose milk meets certain quality requirements.

Dairy Farmers Chief Executive Rob Gordon said both the quality incentive and annual bonus were offered to the Co-operative’s farmer suppliers to encourage the production of the highest quality milk for consumers.

“I’m pleased to announce that more than 400 Dairy Farmers suppliers will receive their annual quality bonus in their next milk cheques,” Mr Gordon said.

“This is testament to our farmer suppliers’ commitment to consistently provide Dairy Farmers with the highest quality milk. In turn, the Co-operative can use this milk to produce our champion brands – including Dairy Farmers white milk, Cracker Barrel, Coon, Moove, Oak and Ski – which Australians know and love.

“I’m especially encouraged by our farmer suppliers’ efforts in striving to produce high quality milk in light of the recent drought and rising on-farm costs experienced by many of our farmer owners over the past 12 months.

“In the five years since it was introduced, the number of Dairy Farmers suppliers who receive the quality bonus has steadily increased. This can be directly attributed to better herd management and best practice shed management.”

Dairy Farmers quality bonus system is just one of a range of incentives offered by the Co-operative to its farmer suppliers. Others include up front milk payments, fixed-volume contracts that guarantee a minimum milk price over two and three year periods and new milk incentives.
