Mil Lel Romano Takes Out Top Hard Cheese Honours at Gala Award Night

09.08.2006

It’s one of Australia’s best-loved cooking cheeses, adored by connoisseurs of high quality, authentic hard grating Italian cheeses and a staple in the kitchens of some of Australia’s top restaurants.

Now Dairy Farmers’ Mil Lel Romano cheese has been given the ultimate accolade by the Dairy Industry Association of Australia, the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia and the South Australian Dairy Farmers’ Association.

Mil Lel Romano was last night awarded the trophy for Champion Hard or Semi-Hard Cheese Variety at the South Australian Dairy Awards Gala Dinner.

The trophy, bestowed by a panel of judges with 200 years of combined industry experience, recognised Mil Lel Romano for its superior taste, texture, colour and appearance.

Dairy Farmers CEO Rob Gordon said the award was the latest in a series of honours for the Mil Lel range.

“Two weeks ago in Sydney, Mil Lel Parmesan won – for the second year in a row – the Australia-wide Dairy Industry Association of Australia trophy for Very Hard Cheese,” Mr Gordon said.

“We’re extremely proud of the Mil Lel brand.  Dairy Farmers has put a lot of work into developing authentic handmade cooking cheeses and this authenticity and passion continues to shine through.

“The range, which also includes Mil Lel Pecorino and Pepato cheeses, has won numerous Australian and international awards for quality.

“Last night’s announcement is a tremendous honour for Mil Lel and Dairy Farmers, and I’d like to thank the panel for bestowing the trophy on our Romano.”

The Mil Lel trophy topped off a brilliant night for Dairy Farmers, the nation’s leading Australian-owned branded dairy business.
