11.02.2008

The results are in and the judges have spoken. Dairy Farmers produces the nation’s top dairy beverage and hard cheese, having scooped two major medals at Dairy Australia’s annual Grand Dairy Awards – the nation’s premier dairy food industry event.

At a ceremony at the National Gallery of Victoria , the Aussie-owned Co-operative accepted the prestigious awards for Champion Hard Cheese for its Mil Lel Superior Romano, and Grand Champion Dairy Beverage for Oak Chocolate milk.

Dairy Farmers maintained its strong showing in the two categories, which it also won at the 2007 event.

In the Champion Dairy Beverage category, Dairy Farmers was a sure thing on the night, producing all three finalists – Oak Chocolate, Dare Double Espresso iced coffee (2007 winner) and Oak to the Max.

Dairy Farmers Chief Executive Rob Gordon said the awards were welcome acknowledgment of the quality and best-tasting credentials for which Dairy Farmers’ products are known.

“We’re thrilled to accept these accolades on behalf of all the people who work so hard to make Dairy Farmers products the best in the country – from the farmers who produce top quality milk, to the factory personnel, technical staff and our Farm Services Officers,” Mr Gordon said.

The latest accolades continue the Co-operative’s successful run at the Grand Dairy Awards; in 2007, the Co-operative took out the top prize – the coveted Grand Champion Dairy Product for its whole white milk.

Dairy Farmers’ award-winning products were selected out of a field of more than 360 entries, representing 90 Australian dairy manufacturers

An independent panel of judges, comprising Chief Judge Neil Willman and highly qualified technical experts, cheesemakers, providores, food media and chefs, undertook blind tastings to ensure the credibility and integrity of the awards.
