As the only milk processing plant in North Queensland, Dairy Farmers’ Malanda factory processes in excess of 88 million litres of milk from 80 Atherton Tablelands dairy farms each year. The milk is used to produce a range of products including white and flavoured milks and cheese for local and international markets.
Dairy Farmers also announced today it will significantly upgrade its Cairns distribution centre and create six new jobs for the local community. The Cairns distribution centre is the base from which the Co-operative’s award winning range of milk and dairy products are delivered to retail outlets across Cairns.
Dairy Farmers Chief Executive Rob Gordon said the Co-operative’s major capital investment in Malanda and Cairns was a clear indication of the importance of the North Queensland region in the Co-operative’s overall growth plans.
“As the producer of North Queensland’s only truly local milk, Dairy Farmers is strongly committed to growing its position in this important market,” Mr Gordon said.
“Dairy Farmers’ decision to invest more than $2 million at our Malanda and Cairns operations is active demonstration of the strategic importance the region plays in the Co-operative’s overall growth strategy.
Further south, Dairy Farmers today announced that it will create more than 20 jobs in Townsville through the establishment of a major sales and distribution hub in the city, representing a million dollar investment by the Co-operative.
